John Leroy Whittle

April 2, 1943 — December 8, 2020

John Leroy Whittle, 77, of Russellville, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at Lake Regional Hospital.

He was born April 2, 1943, in Henley, Missouri, the son of the late Elbert and Roselyn (Sappenfield) Whittle.

He was a 1961 graduate of Eugene High School.

On June 24, 1962, in Eugene, Missouri, John was united in marriage to Linda Jane Harbison who survives at the home.

John worked for over 39 years with Central Dairy overseeing the ice cream production. Following retirement, he helped at the Russellville Locker cutting meat, helped at Auctions for Don Fahrni Auction Services, and farmed.

He was a member of Capital West Christian Church, former president of the Russellville Lions Club, and was a sponsor with the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and horseshoes, cooking for family and friends, attending his grandchildren's events, and his furry best friend Buster.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Whittle, Russellville; four children, Sandra (Brian) Wilburn, Jefferson City; Dennis (Ann) Whittle, Russellville; Aaron (Linda) Whittle, Lohman, Micah (Natasha) Whittle, Henley; 22 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren with 3 more on the way; and a brother, Larry (Judy) Whittle, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Annette Gail Bommel.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2020, at Capital West Christian Church in Jefferson City.

The general public is welcome to attend the visitation while following social distancing guidelines. Facial coverings are encouraged while in attendance.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Homes in Russellville with Pastor Ken Harland officiating. The service will be recorded for those who wish to watch remotely. The link can be found on John’s obituary page under Tribute Wall at www.scrivnermorrowrussellville.com.

Burial will follow at Enloe Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (https://myasthenia.org/Get-Involved/Donating) or to John’s family to help with medical expenses.
