Elmer Alfred Heinrich

Elmer Alfred Heinrich, 84, of Russellville, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2021, at Capital Region Medical Center due to complications from COVID.

He was born April 7, 1936, in Russellville, Missouri, the son of the late Oswald and Ottelia (Linsenbardt) Heinrich.

He was a 1954 graduate of Russellville High School.

Following graduation, he served nine years in the Missouri National Guard.

On November 20, 1960, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lohman, he married Vara Mae Pistel who preceded him in death on August 14, 2015.

Elmer was a lifelong farmer and worked for the US Department of Agriculture for 25 years on the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Committee.

He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church-Stringtown, where he actively served the congregation in numerous capacities throughout his life. He also served the community as a 4-H leader for 17 years, served on the Lohman MFA Board, and currently served as President of the Board of Directors for German Mutual Insurance Company. His family received recognition as a 1984 Farm Family of the year at the Missouri State Fair.

Survivors include two children, Alfred Heinrich, Russellville; Veralyn (Chris) Long, Wardsville; two grandchildren, Brandi (Jason) Kirchner, Mat (Keri) Heinrich; six great-grandchildren, Jace Kirchner, Allie Kirchner, Emma Kirchner, Camden Kirchner, Cole Heinrich, Sutton Heinrich; one more great-grandchild on the way; and Elmer and Vara’s cat, Rocky.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

A private family service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2021, at St. John’s Lutheran Church-Stringtown. The service will be recorded and posted to Elmer’s obituary page on the funeral home’s website by the following week.

A public graveside service with military honors will follow at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. All are welcome to join the family at the cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church or St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Homes in Russellville is in charge of the arrangements.
